HIGH STEEL

HIGH STEEL is a musical comedy saga that follows three generations of the Costello family from Conception Harbour and their contribution to the construction of skyscrapers and bridges throughout North America. Beyond the Costello’s, High Steel is also the story of all the Newfoundlanders who, because of the collapse of the fishery in 1897, began an out-migration to New York and Philadelphia that continued through generations into today. These men found themselves, as iron workers, labouring on the high steel in building and bridge construction, risking life and limb hundreds of stories above ground. High Steel is a tribute to these men. The play salutes their work, but also laments the forces that take them away from their homes.
